1960 - Rome

Introduction
Olympics Among ancient ruins the Ethiopian runner Abebe Bikila ran barefoot to victory becoming the first black African Olympic champion. These amazing Games also saw the first Olympic win of Cassius Clay – or Muhammad Ali as he was later known.
Paralympics Sir Ludwig Guttmann pioneered the introduction of an international games the equivalent of the Olympics. In these amazing games, eight sporting events considered suitable for athletes with spinal cord injuries were hosted, and Italy took an impressive nine medals in fencing.
