1972 - Munich

Introduction
Olympics The largest Games yet, Munich hosted over seven thousand athletes in 195 events, and the star was the US swimmer Mark Spitz who broke seven world records! Sadly, the events were overshadowed by terrorists who killed eleven Israeli team members.
Paralympics
Heidelberg hosted these Games that saw the inclusion of different disability groups for the first time. Electronic touchpads were used for the swimming competitions, meaning that several new world records were set!

Food, altitude and having to wait an hour between turns all marked Bill's experiences in Mexico – not to mention world records being broken and a whole new way to jump.
1972
Bill broke the British record at the 1972 Games and found a new world open up in sponsorship. Adidas bought the pints that night.

Race Walking

Peter talks about the history of race walking, being nearly sick competing infront of an 80,000 strong crowd, and how the tragic Israeli hostage incident introduced tight security at the Olympics for the first time.
1976 Marching to Parliament to stop the removal of the 50km walk from the Games, the unfortunate wide use of drugs, and how the sport has changed over the years.

Michael left playing hockey for Britain after being dropped from the squad in 1968 after being diagnosed with a heart murmur. However the new coach called him and persuaded Michael to try out for the next games.
